Our Stories

You’re The Reason

We’re Here

At CWCS, every story is a testament to strength, courage, and possibility. These women—each on their own unique path—have reached out during moments of crisis and taken brave steps toward healing, safety, and hope. With their permission, we’re honoured to share a few of their journeys to inspire others and show that no one has to walk alone.

Hope in Her Words

When women come to CWCS, they’re often navigating some of the most difficult moments of their lives—seeking safety, support, and someone to walk beside them. Each story shared here reflects not just hardship, but hope, resilience, and transformation. With access to our services—whether it’s advocacy, essential needs, crisis support, or a safe place to land—these women have taken steps toward a new beginning. Their courage fuels our commitment and reminds us why our work matters. These are stories of change, community, and empowerment—and we’re grateful to be part of each one.

I was 39 weeks pregnant, living in my car.

When she reached out to CWCS, she had fled an abusive relationship and was just days away from giving birth. With no safe place to go and limited support, she was trying to navigate housing, income assistance, and medical care alone. CWCS collaborated with community partners to provide immediate resources—baby essentials, gift cards, and referrals for housing and financial aid. After some initial setbacks, she secured a safe apartment and gave birth to a healthy baby. Months later, she returned to CWCS to say thank you—with her baby in her arms and a donation in hand to help other mothers in crisis.“The Chestermere Women’s Crisis Society has given me hope. They have allowed me to begin to recover from my tribulations when my world was upside down. The encouragement, love, support, and selflessness this organization has shown in so many ways has kept me going at my rock bottom.”

A Fresh Start Through Community Support

After escaping an unsafe and abusive relationship, a resilient mother arrived in Chestermere with her young son, carrying the weight of trauma, financial hardship, and uncertainty. Though she found temporary safety with a relative, she was overwhelmed trying to navigate support systems on her own. CWCS stepped in to provide wraparound support—advocating on her behalf, helping her complete her taxes to apply for financial assistance, and connecting her to legal resources. Through our partnerships with local food programs, we ensured she received culturally appropriate food, and her son received school essentials and a donated bicycle. We also helped her access prescription medication, secure glasses, and attend critical health appointments. Recognizing the need for mental health support, we arranged counselling in her first language and assisted with applications for EI, AB Works, and childcare subsidy. As employment challenges continued, CWCS connected her to job placement services and community supports. Today, she and her son are living independently in Calgary, where she is working full-time . CWCS has helped them settle into their new community with local resources and support. While her journey remains difficult, she knows she is not alone. “Because of you, I am spending my life happily. You helped me when no one else would.”
